Apprentice into the Liberal Arts
All Knox Academy teachers are committed to growing into the classical tradition. This means many things and begins with understanding of our goals for our students. We want to cultivate wisdom and virtue. We want to guide our students into “ordo amoris,” ordered affections, and build into them the corresponding thoughts, behaviors, and habits. We want our students to truly love truth, goodness, and beauty, and so must our teachers. We want our students to pursue excellence in all things and not to simply know but to act righteously upon what they know. All these things we want first for our teachers.
The Timeless and Traditional
As a classical and Christian school, Knox Academy is committed to piety. We recognize that we have a duty both to the past and to the future, one that must temper our modern and individualistic pride. Of course, we live at a time when progress is not as enchanting as it once was, say 150 years ago, but we nevertheless are all children of modernity and find it challenging to consider that we must change ourselves to fit standards set by those who have come long before. This is a challenge that we embrace with humility and joy. We read old books, sing old songs, and cultivate a love for that which has been handed down through time. This is the culture which we seek to develop at our school.
